How to Calculate Gold Zakat Using the Online Calculator
When Is Gold Zakat Due?
Gold zakat becomes due when four conditions are met together:
Reaching the nisab: 85 grams of pure gold (24 karat) or its equivalent in other karats (about 92.7 grams of 22k, or 97.1 grams of 21k).
Completion of the hawl: a full Hijri year (354 days) of continuously owning that nisab.
Full ownership: the gold must be fully owned, not pledged or indebted.
Surplus above needs: the gold is saved or held for adornment beyond one's needs (scholars differ on jewelry actually worn).
Once these conditions are met, the zakat due is 2.5% of the gold's total value at the price on the day zakat is paid, and it is preferable to pay it in cash to ease things for those entitled to receive it.
